Everything You Need to Know About The Independent Nurse Prescribing Course

Challenges for non-prescribing individuals in the field of aesthetics

One of the biggest frustrations for non-prescribers in aesthetics is the lack of freedom and autonomy that comes with being a prescriber. Access to drugs and medications required for medical aesthetics is of utmost importance for ensuring maximum patient safety. Unfortunately, non-prescribers have no choice but to depend on an independent prescriber for access to prescription-only medications (POMs) such as anti-wrinkle treatment, hyaluronidase, and anesthesia.

Becoming an independent prescriber through the v300 course will give you the confidence to run your own clinic safely.

What you need to know about the Independent Prescriber course at the University of Manchester and the University of Salford:

Array Academy has partnered with both universities to offer Designated Prescribing Practitioner and Practice Assessor services to past delegates of Array Academy who wish to undertake the v300 course. Below is further information about the course offered at each university.

University of Salford – Non-Medical Prescribing (Level 7, 30 credits) The course is completed over five and a half months and includes seminars, group work, tutorials, lectures, and self-directed study. There are set days for weekly theory sessions.

The University of Salford offers five intakes per year: September, January, and April, with attendance for theory sessions on Mondays (24 weeks); March, with attendance for theory sessions on Tuesdays (24 weeks); and June, with attendance for theory sessions on Thursdays or Fridays (20 weeks).

The course consists of lectures and self-directed study. The September, January, March, April, and June 2022 courses will be delivered remotely via an online virtual classroom. In 2023, the June course will be delivered on campus.

The University of Salford is currently accepting applications, which can be submitted here. For further information about the course, please visit their website.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Independent Nurse Prescribing Course requires an undergraduate degree in a related discipline, one year of post-registration experience for nurses, and two years of post-registration experience for pharmacists. The cost is £1,380 per 30 credit module for self-funding applicants, and Manchester Metropolitan University offers three intakes per year with a required foundation course completion one year prior to applying for the V300 Prescribing Course.
